Nyapaṟi is a special community for Aboriginal people in South Australia. It's part of the APY Lands, which are traditional lands. You can find it about 20 kilometres south of the Northern Territory border. It sits at the bottom of the Mann Ranges mountains. Another nearby community, Kanpi, is about 15 kilometres to the west.
Around 50 to 100 people live in Nyapaṟi. Most residents are Pitjantjatjara people. A few non-Aboriginal people, called piranpa, also live there. Nyapaṟi started as a family outstation in the 1970s. The Stevens family moved here to care for their ancestors' traditional country. Today, it is a full community with many families. It also helps manage nearby outstations like Ulkiya and Tankannu.

Community Life in Nyapaṟi
Nyapaṟi and nearby Kaṉpi are small communities. This means they share many basic services. In Nyapaṟi, you will find an art centre and a health clinic. Supplies are delivered to the community every two weeks. Mail arrives once a week. The main community store is located in Kaṉpi.
Education for Kids
Both Kaṉpi and Nyapaṟi used to have their own schools. These schools opened in 1987. However, they joined together in 1993. The new school is called Murputja Education Centre. It was built between the two communities. It is about 6 kilometres east of Nyapaṟi. It is also about 9 kilometres west of Kaṉpi.
The Tjungu Palya Art Centre
The Tjungu Palya art centre is in Nyapaṟi. It helps many local artists grow their skills. Some artists from this centre have shown their work around the world. Their art has been displayed in places like Darwin, Singapore, Alice Springs, Melbourne, and Switzerland. Their art was also featured at the Tarnanthi festival in 2017. This festival is held at the Art Gallery of South Australia in Adelaide.
APY Art Centre Collective
The Tjungu Palya art centre is part of a bigger group. This group is called the APY Art Centre Collective. It was started in 2013. The collective is made up of ten art centres. All of these centres are owned and run by Indigenous people.
Time Zone Information
The APY Lands follow a special time zone. This is because they are close to the Northern Territory border. Unlike the rest of South Australia, they do not use daylight saving time. The time zone is Australian Central Standard Time (UTC+9:30). This is the same time zone as Darwin, not Adelaide.
