Future School Plans
In 2023, the Free Reformed Church School Association asked to build a new school in Oakford. This group already runs the John Calvin School in Byford. The new school would teach students from kindergarten all the way to Year 12. It would be able to hold up to 1,200 students.
The plan was to build the school in two main parts. The senior school buildings would start construction in 2028. The junior school buildings would follow, starting in 2032. However, some local residents were worried about the school. They thought it would cause too much traffic and change the rural feel of the area. The local council also voted against the project. They recommended that it should not be approved.
Getting Around Oakford
Oakford has several important roads that help people travel. These include Thomas Road, Nicholson Road, and Tonkin Highway. The southern ends of both Nicholson Road and Tonkin Highway meet Thomas Road in Oakford.
Since 2023, parts of Kargotich Road have been closed. This is because new roundabouts are being built at the intersections of Thomas Road with Kargotich and Nicholson roads. These road improvements are expected to finish by mid-2024. They are designed to make traffic flow better on the Kwinana and South Western highways. The Tonkin Highway is also being extended through Oakford towards Jarrahdale.
Here are the three main roads in Oakford and where they lead:
Tonkin Highway (State Route 4) - This road goes north towards Muchea and Perth Airport. Its southern end is at Thomas Road in Oakford.
Thomas Road (State Route 21) - This road goes west to Kwinana and east to Byford.
Nicholson Road (State Route 31) - This road goes north to Gosnells. Its southern end is at Thomas Road in Oakford.
