How Ehrendingen Became One Town
Ehrendingen wasn't always one big town! It was formed on January 1, 2006. Before that, it was two separate towns: Oberehrendingen and Unterehrendingen. These two towns had been separate since 1825.
Where is Ehrendingen Located?
Ehrendingen is nestled at the northern base of the Lägern mountains. It covers an area of about 7.3 square kilometers (2.8 square miles).
Most of the land, about 58.3%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 28.5% of the area. The remaining land, about 13.1%, has buildings and roads. Only a tiny part (0.1%) is made up of rivers or lakes.
Even though it's a smaller town, Ehrendingen is part of the larger Zurich Metropolitan Area. The closest big city is Baden, which has about 17,000 people. The two original parts of Ehrendingen have grown together. They follow a small creek that flows up towards the Lägern mountains.

Ehrendingen is home to about 4,049 people. About 14.6% of the people living here are from other countries. Over the last ten years, the town's population has grown by about 21.2%.
Most people in Ehrendingen speak German, about 92.2%. Italian is the second most common language, spoken by 1.5% of the population. English is third, spoken by 1.0%.
In terms of religion, about 52.3% of the people are Roman Catholic. About 31.8% are Protestant. Smaller groups include 2.2% who are Muslim and 1.4% who follow other faiths.
When it comes to politics, the SVP was the most popular in the 2007 federal election. They received 36.8% of the votes. The CVP was next with 17.1%, followed by the FDP with 10.8%.

Ehrendingen's Coat of Arms
The town's coat of arms has a special design. It is split into two parts. One part is blue and features a yellow deer border. The other part is white and shows a green fir tree that looks like it's growing from a crack. These symbols come from the old coats of arms of Unterehrendingen and Oberehrendingen.
Schools and Learning
Ehrendingen has a good education system for its young people.

- After primary school, there is a secondary school and a Realschule.
For higher education, students can attend the Bezirksschule (district school) in Baden or Endingen. If students do well in the Bezirksschule, they can go to the Kantonsschule (state school or college) in Baden. This school lasts for four years.

Getting Around Ehrendingen
Ehrendingen is located on Route 17, which connects Baden to the Surb valley. There is also a side road that leads to Freienwil.
The town is served by three Postauto (bus) lines. These buses connect Ehrendingen to other towns like Endingen (line 352), Freienwil (line 353), and Kaiserstuhl (line 354). Ehrendingen has six bus stops: Höhtal, Breitwies, Post, Niedermatt, Unterdorf, and Tiefenwaag. The 353 bus line only goes as far as the Niedermatt bus stop before heading to Freienwil. For train travel, the nearby village of Niederweningen has a railway station with connections to Zürich.
