Oreostemma is a group of flowering plants that belong to the daisy family, which is also known as Asteraceae. These plants are mostly found in the western part of North America. Interestingly, two types of Oreostemma plants grow only in California and nowhere else in the world.
Types of Oreostemma Plants
There are a few different kinds of Oreostemma plants. Here are the main ones:
- Oreostemma alpigenum (Tundra aster) — You can find this plant in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. It often grows in tundra areas.
- Oreostemma elatum (Plumas alpine aster) — This type of Oreostemma grows in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. It's a beautiful plant found in alpine regions.
- Oreostemma peirsonii (Peirson's aster) — This plant is special because it only grows in California, specifically in the southern part of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
