Oreshak Peak is a tall mountain peak in Antarctica. It rises to 2,800 meters (about 9,186 feet) high! This impressive peak is found in the Bangey Heights area, which is part of the central Sentinel Range in the Ellsworth Mountains.
Oreshak Peak is surrounded by large ice rivers called glaciers. To its south and southwest is the Patleyna Glacier. The Embree Glacier lies to its west and north. To the east, you'll find the Marsa Glacier.
Where is Oreshak Peak?
Oreshak Peak is located in a very cold and remote part of the world. Its exact coordinates are 78°02′24″S 85°44′06″W / 78.04000°S 85.73500°W. This means it's far south, deep in Antarctica.
The peak is part of the huge Ellsworth Mountains range. It stands about 1.75 kilometers (1.09 miles) north-northwest of Golemani Peak. It is also about 4.43 kilometers (2.75 miles) southwest of Mount Schmid.
How Oreshak Peak Got Its Name
This peak was named after two towns in Bulgaria. These towns are called Oreshak. One is in northern Bulgaria, and the other is in northeastern Bulgaria. It's common for places in Antarctica to be named after places or people from different countries.
