The Orland Buttes are two unique hills, known as buttes, located in California. They stand in both Glenn and Tehama counties. These buttes are right next to Black Butte Lake and about 7.2 miles (11.6 km) west of the city of Orland and I-5.

A butte is like a small, isolated hill with steep sides and a flat top. The Orland Buttes are separated by a stream called Hambright Creek.

Discovering the Orland Buttes

The Orland Buttes rise up from the flat fields of the northern Central Valley in California. They offer a striking view in the landscape.

How Tall Are They?

There are two main buttes that make up the Orland Buttes. The southern butte is the taller of the two. It reaches a height of 1,037 feet (316 m). The northern butte is a bit shorter, with its top reaching about 943 feet (287 m).

Black Butte Lake: A Neighbor

Right next to the Orland Buttes is Black Butte Lake. This isn't a natural lake; it's an artificial lake. It was created by people to help manage water. Its main jobs are to control floods and provide water for farming.
