What's in a Name?

The name Mount Oso comes from the Spanish word oso, which means "bear." It is believed that an explorer named Gabriel Moraga probably discovered this mountain during his trips through the Central Valley in California. This mountain is very visible from Modesto, California, and it creates a beautiful view, especially when seen with the nearby almond orchards. We don't know the exact date when someone first climbed to the top of Mount Oso.
