Otter Brook is a small river, about 13.2-mile-long (21.2 km), found in the southwestern part of New Hampshire in the United States. It's like a smaller stream that flows into a bigger one. Otter Brook is a tributary (a stream or river that flows into a larger river) of The Branch. The Branch then flows into the Ashuelot River, which eventually joins the huge Connecticut River. The Connecticut River then makes its way to Long Island Sound.

Where Does Otter Brook Start and Go?

Otter Brook begins its journey in a place called Chandler Meadow, located in the town of Stoddard, New Hampshire. From there, it flows towards the southwest.

Towns Along the Brook

As it travels, Otter Brook passes through several towns. These include Nelson, Sullivan, and Roxbury. Finally, it reaches the city of Keene.

Joining Other Waters

In Keene, Otter Brook meets another stream called Minnewawa Brook. When these two brooks join together, they form a larger stream known as The Branch.

Lakes and Dams on Otter Brook

Along its path, Otter Brook flows through a couple of important water bodies.

Ellis Reservoir

First, it goes through Ellis Reservoir. This is a small lake located in the town of Sullivan.

Otter Brook Lake and Dam

The brook then reaches Otter Brook Lake. This isn't a natural lake; it's a special reservoir (a large natural or artificial lake used as a source of water supply) built to help control floods. It sits right on the border between Keene and Roxbury. The large dam that created Otter Brook Lake was finished in 1958.

Following the Road

If you were to travel from the village of East Sullivan towards Otter Brook Lake, you would find that New Hampshire Route 9 follows the path of the brook for a good part of the way.
