Our Lady and St Wilfrid's Church is a beautiful Roman Catholic church located in Warwick Bridge, Cumbria, England. It was designed by a famous architect named Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin. The church was finished in 1841. It was built for a special type of church service called the Sarum Rite. Inside, it even has an Easter Sepulchre, which is a special place used during Easter celebrations.

Building the Church: A Look at Its History

This church was designed by the well-known architect Augustus Pugin. It cost about £2,586 to build. The plans for the church were first asked for by Henry Howard. He lived nearby at Corby Castle. His request also included designs for a house for the priest and the church grounds.

Beautiful Stained Glass Windows

The church has amazing stained glass windows. These windows were given by Philip Howard between 1860 and 1867. They show pictures of important figures like St Thomas More and St Oliver Plunkett. A company called Hardman & Co. made these beautiful glass pieces.

Inside the Church: Statues and Relics

Inside Our Lady and St Wilfrid's Church, you can find several statues. There are statues of Our Lady of Lourdes and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. You can also see a statue of the Infant Jesus of Prague. The church also has a special container called a reliquary. This reliquary holds relics of Saint Petronia. These relics came to the church from Cardinal Merry del Val.

The Church Community: Its Parish

In the past, monks from Ampleforth Abbey helped serve this church. It was also connected with St Ninian's Chapel in Brampton. From 2014 to 2020, this church, along with Our Lady and St Joseph's in Carlisle and St Ninian's, formed a parish called Our Lady of Eden.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish

Since 2020, Our Lady of Eden became part of a bigger Catholic parish. This new parish is called Our Lady of Perpetual Help. It serves Carlisle and the surrounding area. The parish is part of the Diocese of Lancaster.

Church Services and Times

Currently, Mass is held at the church on Thursday mornings at 10:00 AM. There is also a vigil Mass on Saturdays at 4:00 PM. This Saturday Mass fulfills the Sunday obligation. On holy days, Mass is offered at 7:00 PM. The rosary is also prayed on Thursday mornings at 9:30 AM.
