Ovid is a small city in the state of Michigan, USA. Most of Ovid is in Clinton County. A tiny part of the city reaches into Shiawassee County. In 2020, about 1,481 people lived there.
The city is located along M-21, a main highway. It is about 9 miles (14 km) east of St. Johns. It is also about 10 miles (16 km) west of Owosso. Ovid started as a village in 1867. It became a city in 2015.

Why Ovid is Called Ovid
Ovid was named after a town in New York. A person named William Swarthout moved here in the mid-1800s. He came from Ovid, New York, and decided to name the new settlement after his hometown.

The city is mainly in Clinton County. A very small part of Ovid extends into Shiawassee County. This part is east of Meridian Street, which is the county line. Even though most of the land is in Clinton County, a few people living in Ovid are counted in Shiawassee County.
