Starting Out in Music (1995–1998)
Pink began singing in clubs in Philadelphia when she was about 14. Around this time, she started using her stage name, "Pink". She has given different stories about how she got this nickname as a child. At 14, she joined an all-female group called Basic Instinct. This group did not release any music.
At 16, Pink formed an R&B group called Choice with two other girls. They sent their first song, "Key to My Heart," to LaFace Records. The head of the label, L.A. Reid, liked it. He signed the group to a record deal. Since they were under 18, their parents had to sign too. The group recorded an album, but it was never released. "Key to My Heart" did appear on the soundtrack for the 1996 movie Kazaam. In 1998, Choice broke up, and Pink decided to go solo.
