Pablo Larrazábal Corominas, born on May 15, 1983, is a professional golfer from Spain. He plays on the European Tour, which is one of the biggest golf competitions in the world. He also played in the first LIV Golf Invitational Series event.

Early Life and Golf Start

Pablo was born in Barcelona, Spain. He went to high school in the United States. When he returned to Spain in 2002, he wanted to become a professional golfer. However, his father wanted him to learn about the value of money first. So, Pablo worked on the family's fish farm in Cantabria before starting his golf career.

Pablo's Professional Golf Journey

Pablo Larrazábal officially became a professional golfer in 2004.

Starting on the Challenge Tour (2006–2007)

In 2006, Pablo played in 8 events on the Challenge Tour. This tour is like a stepping stone for golfers hoping to reach the main European Tour. He made the cut in 7 of these events. His best finish was tied for seventh place at the Vodafone Challenge.

In 2007, he played in 17 Challenge Tour events. He finished in the top 10 twice, with his best result being fourth place at the Postbank Challenge. At the end of 2007, Pablo did very well at the Q-School (Qualifying School). This helped him earn his spot on the European Tour for the 2008 season.

Rookie of the Year and First Big Win (2008)

In 2008, Pablo was a rookie on the European Tour. He played in 28 events and made the cut in 17 of them. He won his very first European Tour title at the Open de France. He led the tournament from start to finish! He also had a great third-place finish at the Madrid Masters. Because of his strong performance, Pablo was given the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award. This award goes to the best new player on the tour.

Ups and Downs (2009–2010)

The years 2009 and 2010 were a bit challenging for Pablo. He didn't have as many top finishes as in his rookie year. He worked hard to improve his game and get back to his best form.

Second European Tour Victory (2011)

Pablo started the 2011 season strong. He finished fifth at the Avantha Masters in India and third at the Open de España in his home country.

In June 2011, Pablo won his second European Tour title at the BMW International Open in Munich. It was a very exciting finish! He had to play extra holes in a sudden-death playoff against his fellow Spanish golfer, Sergio García. Both players were tied after 72 holes. After five intense playoff holes, Pablo finally won with a birdie. This victory also earned him a spot in the 2011 Open Championship, one of golf's major tournaments. He ended the season ranked 17th on the Race to Dubai, which was his highest ranking at that time.

More Wins and Memorable Moments (2012–2019)

In 2012, Pablo had two second-place finishes at the Reale Seguros Open de España and the KLM Open.

In January 2014, Pablo won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. He won by just one shot against famous golfers like Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson. Later that year, something unusual happened at the Maybank Malaysian Open. Pablo was attacked by a swarm of hornets during a round! He jumped into a lake to escape them and got about 20 stings. Even after that, he still managed to finish his round with a good score.

In June 2015, Pablo won his second BMW International Open title in Germany. This was his fourth career win on the European Tour. In December 2019, he won the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa.

Recent Successes (2022–2023)

Pablo continued his winning streak in 2022. In March, he won his sixth European Tour title at the MyGolfLife Open in South Africa. He won in a playoff against Jordan Smith. A month later, he won his seventh European Tour title at the ISPS Handa Championship in Spain with an amazing final round score.

In April 2023, Pablo won his eighth European Tour title at the Korea Championship. In May 2023, he won the KLM Open in the Netherlands, marking his ninth European Tour victory.

Pablo's Personal Life

Pablo comes from a golfing family. His older brother, Alejandro, won The Amateur Championship in 2002, and Pablo was his caddy (the person who carries the golf clubs). Both his father, Gustavo, and his mother, Elena, were also good golfers.

Pablo is also a longtime friend of Andrés Iniesta, a famous former player for the FC Barcelona football team. They both attended La Masia, which is a youth academy, when they were younger.
