Fighting in the UFC
Paddy Holohan made his official UFC debut on July 19, 2014, at UFC Fight Night 46. He fought Josh Sampo and won the fight in the first round. He won by using a move called a rear-naked choke, which makes an opponent give up.
His next fight was on October 4, 2014, at UFC Fight Night 54. He was supposed to fight Louis Gaudinot, but Gaudinot got injured. Chris Kelades stepped in to fight instead. Paddy lost this fight by a unanimous decision from the judges. However, both fighters performed so well that they earned the Fight of the Night award.

Retirement from Fighting
Paddy Holohan was scheduled to fight Willie Gates on May 8, 2016. However, on April 25, he announced that he was retiring from fighting. He explained that he had a rare blood condition called Factor XIII deficiency. This condition made it unsafe for him to continue fighting. Yuta Sasaki replaced him in the fight.
Paddy's Political Career
Becoming a Councillor
Paddy Holohan was elected to the South Dublin County Council in May 2019. He ran as a member of the Sinn Féin party during the 2019 Irish local elections.
Podcast Discussions
In January 2020, Paddy Holohan made some comments on his podcast, "Paddy Holohan's No Shame Podcast." He talked about the Taoiseach (Ireland's Prime Minister) Leo Varadkar. Paddy later apologized for these comments. Varadkar accepted his apology.
Later that month, more comments Paddy made on his podcast came to light. These comments were about serious topics. As a result, Sinn Féin suspended him from the party. This meant he could not act as a Sinn Féin councillor for a while.
Nomination for Mayor
On June 26, 2020, Paddy Holohan's suspension from Sinn Féin was lifted, and he was back in the party. On the same day, he was nominated to become the Mayor of South Dublin by other councillors. However, he was not elected as mayor. Some senior members of Sinn Féin said that his nomination was "regrettable" and "wrong." Because of this, Sinn Féin suspended their entire South West Dublin organization for a period of time.
Leaving Sinn Féin
In March 2021, Sinn Féin took disciplinary action against Paddy Holohan again. This was because he refused to remove a social media post that supported a business owner who had opened during COVID-19 restrictions.
Later that month, it was announced that Paddy Holohan had decided not to renew his membership with Sinn Féin. He then became an independent councillor, meaning he was no longer part of a political party.

In the 2024 Irish local elections, Paddy Holohan ran for seats in both Tallaght South and Tallaght Central. He won seats in both areas. He chose to take up his seat in Tallaght South. For the Tallaght Central seat, he nominated Dean Donnelly, a local MMA coach, to take his place on the council.
