History of Parker
The first people to settle in the Parker area arrived in the early 1840s. The city was named after William C. Parker. He was the son of John C. Parker, who was the first known settler in this area.
Parker officially became a city on March 22, 1969. This means it gained its own local government.
A very old church, Corinth Presbyterian Church, was started in Parker in 1846. The building you see today was built in 1923. It is thought to be the oldest church that has continuously met in Collin County.
Where is Parker Located?
Parker is in the southern part of Collin County. It shares its borders with several other towns. To the north is Allen, and to the west is Plano. To the south, you'll find Murphy. Wylie is to the southeast, and Lucas is to the northeast.
The city is about 26 miles northeast of the center of Dallas. This makes it close enough to a major city for activities.
Parker covers a total area of about 8.5 square miles (22.13 square kilometers). Only a tiny part of this area is water.
Parker is also famous for being the home of Southfork Ranch. This ranch was used as the setting for the popular television show Dallas.
