Tributaries

The Partridge River is a river found in northern Ontario, Canada. It flows through the Cochrane District in the northeastern part of the province. This river is a "tributary" of James Bay. A tributary is a smaller river or stream that flows into a larger river or lake. The Partridge River is located between two much bigger river systems: the Moose River to its west and the Harricana River to its east. All these rivers are part of the James Bay drainage basin, which is an area of land where all the water drains into James Bay.

Where the River Flows

The Partridge River starts its journey at Partridge Lake. This lake is very close to a larger lake called Kesagami Lake. Kesagami Lake is part of the Harricana River system.

From Partridge Lake, the river flows out towards the east. Then, it turns and heads north. It makes a quick turn to the west as it goes through an area with fast-moving water called the Kanatotik Rapids. After the rapids, the river turns north again. It flows past an area known as Blackbear Island.

The river continues its path north, going around Kaskagonagau Island and Mistikopileo Island. Along the way, another river, the Little Partridge River, joins it from the right side. Finally, the Partridge River reaches its end, flowing into James Bay.

Rivers and Creeks Joining In

Several smaller rivers and creeks flow into the Partridge River, adding to its water. These are called tributaries.

  • Little Partridge River (joins from the right side)
  • Paskeyau Creek (joins from the right side)
  • Marberg Creek (joins from the right side)
  • Malastikweyau Creek (joins from the left side)
  • Glaister Creek (joins from the right side)
