Patrick, Nevada facts for kids
Patrick is a small, undeveloped area in Storey County, Nevada. It was once the location of a large, historic ranch. The ranch was founded by Patrick McCarran, who came to Nevada in 1858. He was part of the United States Army at that time.
In 1862, Patrick McCarran claimed about 2,600 acres of land. This land became known as McCarran Ranch and the community of Patrick. Patrick McCarran's son, Pat McCarran, later became a very important person. He was Nevada's first U.S. Senator who was born in the state. He was also known for being strongly against communism.
Today, only two of the original buildings from McCarran Ranch are still standing. Most of the 2,600 acres have been developed into a large business area called the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. The remaining parts of Patrick and the ranch are now private homes and a nature preserve.
