Pauley Perrette (born March 27, 1969) is an American actress and singer. She is well-known for playing Abby Sciuto in the TV show NCIS. She was on the show from 2003 to 2018. Pauley retired from acting in 2020.

Pauley Perrette's Early Life
Pauley Perrette was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She grew up in many different states across the southern United States. These included Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. She also lived in New York, New Jersey, and California.
When she was younger, Pauley had many dreams. She wanted to work with animals. She also thought about being in a rock and roll band. Another dream was to become an FBI agent.
Pauley went to Valdosta State University in Georgia. There, she studied criminal justice. Later, she moved to New York City to study at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. While in New York, she had many different jobs. She worked as a bartender. She also handed out flyers on roller skates for a fast-food restaurant. She even worked as a cook on a boat that offered dinner cruises.
Her Acting Career
Pauley Perrette has worked in both television and movies. She often did commercials and voice-overs. She also appeared in music videos and short films.
After moving to Los Angeles, she got many small roles. She appeared in the sitcom Frasier as a waitress. She also guest-starred in the first season of 24. Pauley was in movies like The Ring and Almost Famous.
In 2001, she played Alice Cramer in Special Unit 2. This was a repeating role. Her most famous role came in 2003. She played Abby Sciuto, a unique forensic scientist, in NCIS. Her character first appeared in two episodes of JAG. These episodes helped introduce the characters for the new NCIS show.
Pauley also played Abby in other NCIS shows. She appeared in NCIS: Los Angeles in 2009. She was also in NCIS: New Orleans in 2014 and 2016.
The character Abby Sciuto was created by Donald P. Bellisario. He wanted Abby to seem unusual but be very smart. Pauley added her own ideas to the character. She wanted Abby to be seen as a smart, capable person. Abby was not someone who could be easily labeled or stereotyped.
On October 4, 2017, it was announced that Pauley would leave NCIS. Her last episode was "Two Steps Back" in the 15th season.
Besides acting, Pauley Perrette is also a writer. She wrote a short story called "Cheers...". It was published in a book of stories. In 2007, she started making a documentary. It was about a U.S. civil rights attorney named Mark Lane. The film, called Citizen Lane, was finished in 2013.
Pauley has always been interested in crime. She studied sociology, psychology, and criminal science in college. She even started her master's degree in criminal science. This was before she became famous in entertainment.
In 2010, Pauley was one of the top three most popular TV performers. She was the only woman in the top 10. She also appeared in commercials for Expedia.com. In 2018, she had the highest popularity score among female TV actors.
Pauley played the main role of Jackie in the TV show Broke in 2020. The show was canceled after one season. On July 7, 2020, Pauley Perrette announced her retirement from acting.
Pauley Perrette's Music
Pauley Perrette recorded a song called "Fear." She co-wrote it with Tom Polce. The song was released on the NCIS: The Official TV Soundtrack in 2009. "Fear" was also used in an NCIS episode called "Aliyah."
Before this, Pauley was the lead singer for a band called Lo-Ball. She used the stage name "Pauley P." One of their songs, "Can't Get Me Down," was in the movie Legally Blonde. Pauley also appeared in a music video for the heavy metal band Metallica. The video was for their song "The Unnamed Feeling." In 2011, she sang on a song called "Fire in Your Eyes" by B. Taylor. She also sang on the 2011 song "Attention Please" by DMC.
Pauley Perrette's Personal Life
Pauley Perrette married actor and musician Coyote Shivers in 2000. They separated four years later. Their divorce was finalized in 2006.
Pauley has helped law enforcement in different cities. In 2004, she helped raise money for a reward in a case in Prattville, Alabama. This was near where she lived as a child. In 2007, she donated money to Detroit officials. This was for a reward in another case. She also asked for help finding the person who killed her friend, Lisa Williamson, in 2007. In 2009, Pauley worked with America's Most Wanted on the case of Tammy Vincent.
Pauley supports many charities. These include groups that help animals. She also supports the American Red Cross and civil rights organizations. She is a member of the Hollywood United Methodist Church.
Pauley was engaged to cameraman Michael Bosman. They decided not to marry until all people could legally marry in the United States. They supported equal marriage rights. Later, Pauley became engaged to Thomas Arklie in 2011. She again stated they would wait to marry until equal marriage rights were available everywhere.
Pauley is naturally blonde. In 2014, she had a serious allergic reaction to her character's black hair dye. Her face swelled up, and she warned others about the symptoms.
In November 2015, Pauley was involved in an incident outside her Hollywood Hills home. She later said she did not blame the person involved.
In June 2019, Pauley said she left NCIS due to issues on set. She also mentioned being "terrified" of a former co-star.
In September 2022, Pauley shared that she had a stroke in September 2021.
Pauley co-owned a bakery in Manhattan, New York City. It was called Donna Bell's Bake Shop, named after her mother. The shop closed in December 2020 after almost 10 years.
