Peta Wilson's Life and Career
Early Life
Peta Wilson was born in Sydney, Australia, on November 18, 1970. Her mother, Karlene White Wilson, was a caterer. Her father, Darcy Wilson, used to be a Warrant Officer in the Australian Army. Peta spent some of her childhood in Papua New Guinea because of her father's work. Her parents divorced in 1982.
Acting Career
Before becoming an actress, Peta Wilson worked as a model in Australia and Europe. In 1991, she moved to Los Angeles to study acting. She took classes with teachers like Arthur Mendoza and Tom Waits. After five years of studying, she started getting small roles in independent movies, such as Loser.
In 1996, Peta was planning to continue her acting studies in New York City. However, she decided to try out for a new TV show first. This show was being made for the USA cable TV channel in North America. More than 200 actresses tried out for the main role. Peta Wilson was chosen for the part.
The show was called La Femme Nikita. It was based on a French action movie from 1990 with the same name. The TV series was produced by companies from Canada and America. It ran for five years and had 96 episodes. Most of the filming happened in and around Toronto, Ontario.
Peta Wilson starred alongside actors like Roy Dupuis, Don Francks, Alberta Watson, and Eugene Robert Glazer. For her role as Nikita, Peta was nominated twice for the Gemini Award. This award is given for "Best Performance by An Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role."
In 2001, Peta Wilson went to the Moscow International Film Festival. There, she met the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, who told her he was a fan of her work. In 2002, she played the real-life actress Anny Ondra in the TV movie Joe and Max.
She also appeared in the 2003 movie The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. In this film, she played the vampire character Mina Harker.
In 2006, Peta was in an Australian TV show called Two Twisted. She also had a small part in the movie Superman Returns. In this film, she played a NASA spokeswoman named Bobbie-Faye.
