Peter Takeo Okada (born October 24, 1941 – died December 18, 2020) was an important Japanese leader in the Roman Catholic Church. He served as the Archbishop of Tokyo from 2000 until 2017.

Life and Career of Peter Takeo Okada

Peter Takeo Okada was born in Ichikawa, Chiba, Japan. He grew up and later studied at the University of Tokyo.

Becoming a Priest

Okada decided to dedicate his life to the church. He became a priest on November 3, 1973. This was an important step in his religious journey.

Serving as a Bishop

After many years as a priest, Peter Takeo Okada was chosen to become a bishop. In 1991, he became the Bishop of Urawa (now called the Diocese of Saitama). He served in this role for nine years.

Archbishop of Tokyo

In 2000, Peter Takeo Okada was given an even bigger role. He was named the Archbishop of Tokyo. An archbishop is a very senior bishop who leads a large area of churches, called an Archdiocese. He led the Catholic community in Tokyo for 17 years.

Retirement and Passing

Archbishop Okada retired from his position in 2017. He passed away on December 18, 2020, in Saitama, Saitama, at the age of 79.
