Phi Sigma Nu (ΦΣΝ) is a special group for Native American men in the United States. It is the oldest and largest Native American fraternity. It was started in 1996 in North Carolina.

History of Phi Sigma Nu

Phi Sigma Nu is a fraternity for Native American men. It was founded on February 13, 1996. This happened at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. It was the first national Native American fraternity in the United States.

The fraternity has special ceremonies. They do not use alcohol in these events. This is because the ceremonies are seen as a way to purify or cleanse.

What Phi Sigma Nu Believes In

The main goal of Phi Sigma Nu is to help Native men. They want to help them grow in many ways. This includes school, social life, culture, and physical health. They believe this helps their families and communities. It also helps the United States and the world.

A group called the National Chief Council leads the fraternity. This group has elected officers. The Chief President is in charge of this council. As of August 2025, Dr. Lawrence T. Locklear is the Chief President.

The fraternity has grown a lot. By August 29, 2020, it had over 400 members. These members came from more than 55 different Native American tribes.

Phi Sigma Nu has a special motto. It is "Men of Valor. Men of Pride." This means they value courage and self-respect.

The fraternity's colors are red, yellow, black, and white. Their special animal symbol is the snapping turtle. They also have a publication called Warriors Words. This is like their own magazine or newsletter.
