Phi Sigma Nu (ΦΣΝ) is the oldest and largest Native American fraternity in the United States. It was started in 1996 in North Carolina. A fraternity is a group of male students who join together for social, academic, and community activities. Phi Sigma Nu focuses on supporting Native American men.

The Story of Phi Sigma Nu
Phi Sigma Nu was founded on February 13, 1996. It started at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. This group was the first national Native American fraternity ever formed in the U.S. It was a big step for Native American students.
The fraternity is led by a group called the National Chief Council. This council has elected officers. The main leader is called the Chief President. Dr. Lawrence T. Locklear is the current Chief President.
What Phi Sigma Nu Believes In
Phi Sigma Nu has a special mission statement. It says:
We, the Brothers of Phi Sigma Nu, empower Native Men to collectively engage in academic, social, cultural and physical realms to promote and inspire growth in tribal families, tribal communities, the United States of America and the world at large.
This means the group helps Native American men grow in many ways. They focus on school, social skills, culture, and physical health. Their goal is to help their families, communities, and the world.
The motto of Phi Sigma Nu is "Men of Valor. Men of Pride."
Seven Guiding Principles
The fraternity has seven important principles that guide its members:

- Individuality
- Community
- Honesty
- Wisdom
- Pride
- Unity
Phi Sigma Nu does not use alcohol in its special ceremonies or when new members join. These events are seen as a way to make things pure and clean.
The group is recognized by the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors. As of August 29, 2020, Phi Sigma Nu has more than 400 members. These members come from over 55 different Native American tribes.
Where Phi Sigma Nu Has Chapters
Phi Sigma Nu has grown to have 12 chapters in different states. A chapter is a local group of the fraternity at a specific school. They also have three active provisional chapters. Provisional chapters are new groups that are still developing. The fraternity also has three professional chapters. These are for members who have graduated.
