Philip Barantini is a talented British director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. He was born on July 13, 1980. He is well-known for making films and TV shows that look like they were filmed in one continuous take, which is a very tricky and cool way to tell a story!

As an actor, Philip Barantini has appeared in popular shows like Dream Team, Band of Brothers, and The Responder.
About Philip Barantini
Early Life and Acting Career
Philip Barantini grew up in Huyton, Merseyside, a town near Liverpool, England, where he was born.
He started his career as an actor. One of his early and memorable roles was playing Sergeant Wayne A. "Skinny" Sisk in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers (2001). This show was about soldiers during World War II.
He also played Billy O'Neill in the TV series Dream Team from 1998 to 2000. Later, he appeared as Bezpalov in Chernobyl (2019) and Steve in The Responder (2022).
In films, Philip Barantini acted alongside famous stars like Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom in Ned Kelly (2003), where he played Steve Hart. He also had roles in movies such as The Escapist (2002) and Hard Boiled Sweets (2012).
First Steps in Directing
While acting, Philip became very interested in directing. He took every chance he could to learn from other directors on set.
He made his first short film, Seconds Out, in 2019. Soon after, he directed another short film called Boiling Point (2019). This short film brought him back together with his friend and former co-star, Stephen Graham. Boiling Point won him an award for Best Short Film at the Manchester awards.
His first full-length movie as a director was a crime thriller called Villain, released in 2020.
Directing Successes
The Boiling Point Story
After the success of the short film, Philip Barantini co-wrote a full-length movie version of Boiling Point (2021) with James Cummings. Philip used his own experiences as a head chef, and stories from others in the restaurant world, to create the movie's plot.
The movie was filmed in one continuous take, which means the camera never stopped rolling from start to finish! This made the film feel very exciting and real. Stephen Graham returned to play the main character, chef Andy Jones. Stephen Graham said working on the film was "the most exhilarating array of emotions I've ever felt on a film set in my life."
The Boiling Point film received many nominations for awards. It was nominated for 11 BIFA awards in 2021, including Best Director. It won awards for Best Cinematography and Best Casting. The film also earned four BAFTA nominations in 2022, including for Best British Film.
Music Videos and Other Films
In September 2021, Philip Barantini directed a music video for Sam Fender's song "Spit of You". The video showed the relationship between a father and son, with Stephen Graham playing the father. This video won the UKMVA award for Best Rock Video in 2022.
Philip Barantini also directed the third film in Netflix's popular Enola Holmes series. This film is currently in post-production, meaning it's being edited and prepared for release.
Television Projects
Philip Barantini also directed for television. He directed the final episode of the Liverpool-based TV drama The Responder, which starred Martin Freeman.
In 2022, he directed a five-part drama series for ITV called Malpractice, starring Niamh Algar.
A TV series sequel to Boiling Point was released on BBC One in December 2023. Philip was a producer, co-creator, and director for this four-part series. He directed the first two episodes. The series continued the story of the restaurant and its characters a few months after the movie ended.
In the summer of 2024, Philip Barantini filmed another four-part series called Adolescence. He directed all four episodes, once again working with Stephen Graham. Each episode of this series was also filmed in one continuous shot. The series was released on March 13, 2025, on Netflix.
