Philippe d'Orléans (born August 2, 1674 – died December 2, 1723) was a very important member of the French royal family. He was known as the Duke of Orléans. From 1715 to 1723, he served as the Regent of the Kingdom of France. This meant he ruled the country while the young king was too young.

Philippe was born at his father's palace in Saint-Cloud, France. From the day he was born, he was called the Duke of Chartres. His father was Philippe I, Duke of Orléans, who was the younger brother of the famous King Louis XIV. His mother was Elisabeth Charlotte of the Palatinate.

In 1692, Philippe married his cousin, Françoise Marie de Bourbon. She was the youngest daughter of King Louis XIV. Philippe became the regent for Louis XV because Louis was still a child. Philippe ruled France until Louis XV became old enough to rule himself in February 1723. This time period, from 1715 to 1723, is known as the Regency. Philippe died in Versailles in 1723. People often remember him as le Régent, which means "the Regent."
