Piedra's History
The Piedra Post Office first opened its doors in 1879. It served the community for many years before closing in 1927.

Piedra is found in the southeastern part of Hinsdale County. It sits in the valley of the Piedra River. This area is also part of the large San Juan National Forest.
The community is located at the southern edge of the beautiful San Juan Mountains. Piedra is about 18 miles (29 kilometers) west of the town of Pagosa Springs.
