Pine Hollow Reservoir is a lake created by a dam in Wasco County, Oregon, United States. It was formed in the 1960s by holding back water from Threemile and Pine Hollow creeks. This reservoir is located on the eastern side of the Cascade Range in Oregon. Its main purpose is to provide water for irrigation, which means watering crops and farms.
The reservoir is about 12 miles (19 km) west-northwest of a town called Maupin. It sits close to the edge of the Mount Hood National Forest. Even though the land around it is private, people are allowed to visit and fish along most of its 3.2-mile (5.1 km) shoreline.
About Pine Hollow Reservoir
Pine Hollow Reservoir is a man-made lake that helps local farms. It was built to store water, which is then used to help crops grow. The reservoir is a great example of how people can manage water resources for both farming and fun activities.
Public Access and Fun
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) works with the local irrigation district to manage the reservoir. Even though homes and a small community called Pine Hollow are right next to the lake, the public can still get to it. This is thanks to a special agreement, called an easement, bought by the ODFW. An easement means the public has the right to use a specific part of private land for access.
The lake has two public boat ramps, making it easy for visitors to launch their boats. There is also a private resort nearby. This resort offers a campground for those who want to stay overnight, boat rentals for exploring the water, and a general store for supplies. It's a popular spot for outdoor activities.
Fish and Fishing
Pine Hollow Reservoir is a great place for fishing. Many different types of fish live and grow well in its waters. Some of the popular fish species you might catch include rainbow trout, which are known for their colorful sides. You can also find brown bullheads, a type of catfish, and largemouth bass, which are a favorite among sport fishers. Another common fish found here are bluegills, small and often colorful fish that are fun to catch.
