Exploring Pine Knoll Shores Geography
Pine Knoll Shores is located in the southwestern part of Carteret County. It sits on Bogue Banks, which is a barrier island. A barrier island is a long, narrow island that protects the mainland from ocean storms.
Location and Surroundings
The town has the Atlantic Ocean to its south. To the north, you'll find Bogue Sound. This sound is a body of water that separates the barrier island from the mainland.
Pine Knoll Shores is next to other towns. To the west, it borders Indian Beach. To the east, it borders Atlantic Beach.
Getting Around Town
North Carolina Highway 58 runs right through Pine Knoll Shores. This highway travels along the entire length of Bogue Banks.
If you head east on NC 58, you can cross a bridge to Morehead City on the mainland. If you go west, NC 58 crosses Bogue Sound from Emerald Isle to Cape Carteret, also on the mainland.
