Alecia Beth Moore (born September 8, 1979), who is known by her stage name Pink (often styled as P!NK), is an American singer and songwriter. She is famous for her powerful voice, exciting stage performances with acrobatics, and her honest song lyrics.

When she was 15, Pink was part of a girl group called Choice. After the group broke up, she started her solo career. Her first album, Can't Take Me Home (2000), was a big success. She became even more famous with the song "Lady Marmalade" from the movie Moulin Rouge!. This song was number one in many countries and won her a Grammy Award.

Pink is one of the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 135 million records. She has won many awards, including three Grammy Awards and seven MTV Video Music Awards. Billboard magazine named her the Pop Songs Artist of the 2000s Decade and Woman of the Year in 2013.

Early Life

Alecia Beth Moore was born on September 8, 1979, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Her mother, Judith Moore, was a nurse, and her father, James Moore, was an insurance salesman. Her mother is Jewish, and Pink has described her background as Irish-German-Lithuanian-Jewish. As a child, she had asthma. Her parents divorced before she was 10 years old.

From age 4 to 12, Pink trained as a competitive gymnast. In high school, she joined a band called Middleground. She also began writing song lyrics to express her feelings.

When she was 14, she started performing in clubs in Philadelphia and began using the stage name "Pink." She briefly joined a group called Basic Instinct, but they did not release any music.

Music Career

Starting Her Career

At 15, Pink formed an R&B group called Choice with two other girls. They signed a contract with LaFace Records and recorded an album, but it was never released. One of their songs, "Key to My Heart," was featured in the 1996 movie Kazaam. The head of the record label, L.A. Reid, encouraged Pink to become a solo artist. The group Choice broke up in 1998.

Rise to Fame

After Choice ended, Pink signed with LaFace Records as a solo artist. Her first album, Can't Take Me Home, came out in 2000. It was a huge success, with hit singles like "There You Go" and "Most Girls".

In 2001, she collaborated with Christina Aguilera, Mýa, and Lil' Kim on a cover of "Lady Marmalade" for the movie Moulin Rouge!. The song became her first number-one single in the U.S. and won a Grammy Award.

Pink wanted more creative control over her music. For her second album, Missundaztood (2001), she worked with Linda Perry from the band 4 Non Blondes. The album had a more pop-rock sound and included hit songs like "Get the Party Started", "Don't Let Me Get Me", and "Just Like a Pill". It sold over 13 million copies worldwide and is still her best-selling album.

Continued Success with More Albums

She returned to the top of the charts with her next albums, I'm Not Dead (2006) and Funhouse (2008). These albums featured major hits like "Who Knew", "U + Ur Hand", and the number-one single "So What". Her Funhouse Tour was a massive success, especially in Australia, where she played 58 shows.

In 2010, Pink released Greatest Hits... So Far!!!, a collection of her most popular songs. It included new tracks like "Raise Your Glass" and "`...` Perfect," which both became top ten hits.
