Pinocchio 3000 (also known as P3K or Pinocchio the Robot) is a fun computer-animated movie from 2004. It's a futuristic version of the classic story The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi.
In this movie, Pinocchio isn't a wooden puppet. Instead, he's a robot who comes to life when he gets a huge burst of electricity from the city's power. The film is about Pinocchio trying to live with humans. He faces challenges, gets upset, but eventually learns to get along. Many parts of the original Pinocchio story are used, but in new ways.
The story happens in a city called Scamboville. This city is always changing and growing, ruled by a man named Scamboli.

Story of Pinocchio 3000
An old inventor named Geppetto builds a robot son, who he names Pinocchio. At the same time, an evil mayor named Scamboli is building a high-tech city called "Scamboville." He wants to get rid of all nature. Scamboli doesn't like children, except for his own daughter, Marlene.
Marlene tells her dad that kids have no place to play. So, Scamboli decides to build a theme park just for kids, called "Scamboland."
Pinocchio Comes to Life
That night, Geppetto and his robot penguin friend, Spencer, get ready to bring Pinocchio to life. But Scamboli has taken all the city's power to light up his new theme park. Geppetto has to steal some electricity to power Pinocchio. Suddenly, Scamboland loses power, and all the kids leave.
After Pinocchio comes to life, a robot fairy named Cyberina appears. She tells Geppetto that Pinocchio can become a real boy. But first, he must learn the difference between right and wrong.
Pinocchio's Adventures
The next morning, Pinocchio walks to school with Spencer. He meets Zach, Cynthia, and Marlene. Marlene challenges Pinocchio to an "Imagination game" hosted by Cyberina. Marlene wins, but Pinocchio thinks he did better. He grabs the medal from her.
As Pinocchio runs away, he meets Scamboli's robot helpers, Cabby and Rodo. They take Pinocchio to see Scamboli. Pinocchio says, "Life would be great if kids were more like us." This gives Scamboli a bad idea.
Scamboland's Dangers
Scamboli officially opens Scamboland and makes Pinocchio a star attraction. When Geppetto hears about this, he tries to get Pinocchio to come home. While Pinocchio performs, Scamboli kidnaps Geppetto.
Later, all the children get on a roller coaster ride called "A Whale of a Change." This ride turns them all into "Scambobots." Meanwhile, Pinocchio gives Marlene her medal back, and they become friends. They spend the night in Marlene's secret garden.
The Final Battle
The next morning, Marlene is sad to see that Scambobots have destroyed her garden. Pinocchio laughs, not realizing what happened. Marlene gives him the medal and says she's no longer his friend. Pinocchio then understands he helped Scamboli by accident. He leaves to find his dad.
Pinocchio goes home and finds Spencer. Spencer tells him that Geppetto went to find him. They go to Scamboland and find Scamboli has turned Geppetto into a robot. Geppetto is now programmed to attack Pinocchio. Spencer blinds Scamboli with his camera and steals the remote that controls Geppetto and the other Scambobots.
Pinocchio and Spencer hide in the "Tunnel of Danger" ride. Scamboli traps them there. Marlene arrives and helps Pinocchio avoid the tunnel's dangers. But Scamboli stops Marlene so he can shoot Pinocchio with a laser gun. Pinocchio uses the medal to block the laser. The laser bounces back at Scamboli and breaks his weapon.
Cabby accidentally gives Geppetto the remote that controls all the Scambobots. Geppetto then tells the robots to capture Scamboli.
Scamboli's Defeat
Scamboli tries to escape in Cabby's shuttle, but a Scambocop catches him. The Scambocop throws Scamboli into a shuttle and sends him into the Whale ride. Pinocchio, Geppetto, Marlene, and Spencer go to turn the robots back into children.
It's Geppetto's turn to be changed back, but Scamboli presses a button to stop the machines. Pinocchio goes inside the whale to fix it. He finds a button that's hard to reach. Scamboli starts to attack him. Pinocchio begins to tell lies about how great Scamboli is. This makes Pinocchio's nose grow long enough to hit the button. The carts start moving again, and Scamboli gets caught in the ride.
Pinocchio realizes that everything was his fault. Cyberina appears. Pinocchio tells her he has learned about right and wrong. Cyberina turns Pinocchio into a real boy and Geppetto back into a human. Suddenly, Scamboli, now a robot, appears, which shocks Marlene. Cyberina uses Cynthia's "Funbrella" to make sunshine. This brings back all the plants Scamboli destroyed. The movie ends with Spencer taking a picture of Pinocchio, Geppetto, and Marlene.
Characters in Pinocchio 3000
Geppetto's Family
- Pinocchio, voiced by Sonja Ball, is a robot created by Geppetto. His nose grows when he lies, a feature Cyberina added. At first, he thinks robots are better than humans because he has a faster brain. When he loses an imagination contest to Marlene, he takes her trophy medal. This medal becomes very important later. Even though he's proud to be a robot, he learns to like humans and life through his dad and his friendship with Marlene. He wants to be accepted by other kids.
- Geppetto, voiced by Howard Ryshpan, is a robot scientist who builds Pinocchio. He is Pinocchio's father and tries to protect him a lot. He caused a power outage at Scamboland's opening to get enough electricity for Pinocchio. He lives in a smart house with many computers. He also tries to save Pinocchio from the Scamboland theme park.
- Spencer, voiced by Howie Mandel, is a robot talking penguin. He goes with Pinocchio on his adventures. He tries to help Pinocchio make good choices and stay safe. He wears a suit and a monocle, like Jiminy Cricket from the Disney story. He is a bit clumsy and relaxed. He also works as Geppetto's helper.
- House, voiced by Ellen David, is Geppetto's house. It has its own computer brain that can control doors, windows, and other things.
Scamboli's Family
- Mayor Scamboli (or Combinard), voiced by Malcolm McDowell, is the main bad guy. He is the mayor of the city and a widower who raises his daughter alone. He wants to change the city by removing all nature and replacing it with metal and technology. He loves his daughter very much and protects her. He likes to control things and sees children and nature as unpredictable. This makes him want to turn them into something he understands: robots.
- Marlene (or Marlène), voiced by Helena Evangeliou, is Scamboli's daughter. At first, she seems like a spoiled rich girl. But she is more complex. She cares about nature and doesn't like too much technology. This might be why she didn't like Pinocchio at first. She also becomes Pinocchio's friend and maybe even his crush. She feels torn between her love for her father and her love for the environment, which her dad keeps attacking. She wears her hair in pigtails with colorful hair bands.
- Cab, voiced by Matt Holland, and Rodo, voiced by Jack Daniel Wells, are Scamboli's robots. They follow orders from both Scamboli and Marlene. They often get confused when given different commands. They are not very smart and are a source of funny moments in the movie. Cab is a tall, thin yellow robot. Rodo is a short, red robot that looks like a porcupine. Pinocchio first thinks he's like them, but then realizes he's special. They are based on the Fox and the Cat characters.
Other Characters
- Cyberina, voiced by Whoopi Goldberg, is the city's robot fairy. Her name sounds like "Sabrina" but with "Cyber" in it. She is based on the Blue Fairy from the original story. It's not clear if she has real magic, but she is very good with technology. She promises to help Pinocchio become a real boy if he learns right from wrong. She is a funny character, partly because of Whoopi Goldberg's personality. She wears cool glasses and has a mermaid-like lower body that lets her fly. Sparks come from the top of her head, like static electricity.
- Zack, voiced by Bobby Edner, and Cynthia, voiced by Gabrielle Elfassy, are other children in Scamboville. They are friends with Marlene and appear throughout the story.
- Scambocop, voiced by Terrence Scammell, is a robot police officer. He patrols the skyways in Scamboville in a flying police car. He is strict and tries to keep the skyways safe. He chases Pinocchio and later Mayor Scamboli.
Music
The music for the movie, made by James Gelfand, has many different styles. It goes from pop songs to soft music for kids. The music was made to appeal to modern kids but also be nice for adults to listen to. At one point, Pinocchio sings on stage.
The main song of the movie is What's the Difference?. It talks about Pinocchio's feelings about being a robot.
