Reaching the Top

The true top of Pioneer Peak is called the North summit. There is no easy trail to this part of the mountain. Reaching the North summit requires special climbing skills and equipment. How Weather Forms

Weather systems often come from the Gulf of Alaska. When these systems hit the Chugach Mountains, the air is forced to rise. This process is called orographic lift. It causes a lot of rain and snow to fall on the mountain.
