Club Career Highlights

Starting His Football Journey

Piotr began playing football at age nine with Billstedt Horn. He then played for other clubs in Hamburg, like SC Concordia and FC St. Pauli. In 1999, he joined FC Bayern Munich, one of Germany's biggest clubs.

He started in their junior team and then moved to the amateur team. He also played a few games for Bayern's main team. However, he was not a regular player there.

Success with Hamburger SV

In January 2005, Piotr returned to Hamburg to play for Hamburger SV. The team manager, Thomas Doll, gave him a chance to play. Piotr quickly showed how good he was.

Within two seasons, he became a regular starter for the team. In his first full season (2005–06), he scored five goals. This helped Hamburg reach the UEFA Champions League, a big European competition.

Time in Spain with Sevilla

On April 5, 2011, Piotr's agent confirmed he would move to Sevilla in Spain. This happened after his contract with Hamburg ended. He had not played as much for Hamburg in the second half of that season.

In his first season with Sevilla (2011–12), he played 35 games in La Liga, Spain's top league. He scored one goal and helped with two assists. On September 15, 2012, he scored a quick goal against Real Madrid, helping Sevilla win 1–0.

In September 2014, Sevilla ended his contract. Piotr disagreed with this decision. He took legal action, and the court decided in his favor. However, he did not play for Sevilla during that season.

Final Club: FC Augsburg

On July 16, 2015, Piotr joined FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga. He first had a short trial, then signed a contract until the end of the 2015–16 season. He played only a few games due to injuries. After the season, Augsburg released him.

Retirement from Professional Football

Piotr Trochowski later retired from professional football. He briefly returned to play for about a year in 2020. He scored two goals in four games for the third team of Hamburger SV. He officially announced his retirement in July 2021.

Piotr was born in Poland, so he could have played for the Polish national team. His mother even wrote to the Polish Football Association. She told them about her talented son and his wish to play for Poland. However, the Polish association was not interested.

This disappointed Piotr and his mother. So, he chose to play for Germany instead. He once said that his heart was closer to Poland, but Germany showed interest in him. Later, he also mentioned that he always wanted to play for Germany because he grew up and learned football there.

Piotr played for the German under-20 team in the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship. In 2006, the senior national coach, Joachim Löw, called him up for the first time. Piotr made his debut on October 7, 2006, in a friendly game against Georgia.

He played six times during the qualification matches for Euro 2008. He was part of the squad for UEFA Euro 2008, where Germany reached the final. However, he did not play in any games during the tournament.

Piotr scored his first international goal on October 15, 2008. It was the only goal in a 2010 World Cup Qualifier against Wales. He was also part of the German team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, where Germany finished in third place.
