Piotr Artur Trochowski (born March 22, 1984) is a German former professional footballer. He played as an attacking midfielder, a player who helps both attack and defense. He was known for his speed, quick dribbling, and excellent technique.
Piotr started his career at Bayern Munich. He then spent six and a half seasons playing for Hamburger SV. In 2011, he moved to Sevilla in Spain. Later, he played for FC Augsburg before retiring.
Trochowski also played for the German national team. He played 35 games for his country over four years. He helped Germany reach the final of the UEFA Euro 2008 and the semi-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Early Life
Piotr Trochowski was born in Tczew, a town in Poland. When he was five years old, his family moved to Hamburg, Germany. They moved under a special rule that allowed people with German family roots to return to Germany.
Club Career
Starting His Football Journey
Piotr began playing football at nine years old. His first team was Billstedt Horn. He then played for other youth clubs in Hamburg, like SC Concordia and FC St. Pauli.
In 1999, he joined FC Bayern Munich, one of Germany's biggest clubs. He played for their junior and amateur teams. He even played a few games for Bayern's main team, but he wasn't a regular player there.
Playing for Hamburger SV
In January 2005, Piotr moved back to Hamburg to play for Hamburger SV. His new coach, Thomas Doll, gave him a chance to show his skills. Piotr quickly became an important player for the team.
In his first full season (2005–06), he scored five goals. One of these goals was against his old team, Bayern Munich! During his time at Hamburg, the team even reached the UEFA Champions League, a big European competition.
Time in Spain with Sevilla
On April 5, 2011, Piotr's agent announced that he would move to Sevilla in Spain. This happened after his contract with Hamburg ended.
In his first season with Sevilla, he played in 35 games. He scored one goal and helped set up two others. On September 15, 2012, he scored a quick goal against Real Madrid, helping Sevilla win 1–0.
Later, there was a disagreement about his contract with Sevilla. Even though he won a lawsuit, he did not play for the team during his last season there.
Short Spell at FC Augsburg
In July 2015, Piotr joined another German club, FC Augsburg. He signed a contract until the end of the 2015–16 season. However, he had some injuries and did not play many games. He left the club after that season.
Retirement from Football
Piotr Trochowski later decided to retire from professional football. He did return to play for about a year in 2020 for the third team of Hamburger SV. He scored two goals in four games. He officially announced his retirement in July 2021.
International Career
Piotr was born in Poland, so he could have played for the Polish national team. His mother even wrote to the Polish Football Association to tell them about her talented son. However, Poland did not show interest.
Because of this, Piotr chose to play for Germany. He said that his heart was closer to Poland, but Germany was interested in him. He also mentioned that he grew up and learned football skills in Germany.
Piotr played for Germany's youth teams, including the under-20 team in the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship. In 2006, he was called up to the senior German national team by coach Joachim Löw. He played his first game on October 7, 2006, against Georgia.
He was part of the German squad for UEFA Euro 2008, where Germany reached the final. He scored his first goal for Germany on October 15, 2008, in a World Cup qualifier against Wales.
Personal Life
Piotr comes from a family that loves football! His three brothers, Christoph, Sławomir, and Arkadiusz, all play football at a semi-professional level.
His cousin, Krystian, is also a sportsman. He plays rugby union for the German national rugby team.
