Pirihueico Lake (also called Lago Pirihueico) is a beautiful lake in southern Chile. It is one of the famous Seven Lakes found in the Panguipulli area. This lake was formed by ancient glaciers, which are like huge, slow-moving rivers of ice.
The lake is surrounded by tall mountains of the Andes mountain range. It sits in a special crack in the Earth's crust, known as a geological fault. Other nearby lakes, like Panguipulli Lake and Lácar Lake in Argentina, are also part of this same fault line.
Pirihueico Lake is long and narrow, making it perfect for boats. It acts like a watery highway! Many people use it to travel between Chile and Argentina, especially when going through the nearby Huahum Pass. Because of this, a special ferry boat carries vehicles and people across the lake. This ferry travels between two towns: Puerto Fuy on the western side and Puerto Pirihueico on the eastern side.
