Where is Plainland?

Plainland is found in the beautiful Lockyer Valley. It's about 75 kilometers (47 miles) west of Brisbane, which is Queensland's capital city. The main road, called the Warrego Highway, runs right through it.

A Look at Plainland's Past

Plainland was first settled in 1878 by about a dozen German families. Most of these families came from a place called West Prussia. They worked hard to build their new homes.

In 1884, the community built a Lutheran church. They replaced it with a new one in 1897. By 1911, about 60 families, mostly German, lived in the area. They had three blacksmiths, a hotel, a school, and a general store.

Plainland State School opened around 1886. It taught local children for many years before closing in 1966. The Plainland Post Office also opened in 1899 and closed in 1966.

After a quiet period in the mid-1900s, Plainland started to grow again in the 1990s. New housing areas like Plainland Crossing and Meadows at Plainland were built. This gave more people a chance to live in this lovely country spot.

  • By 2016, the population was 1,596 people.
