Popeye and Son is a fun animated TV show. It's a comedy based on the famous Popeye comic strip. The comic was created by E. C. Segar and published by King Features Syndicate.
The show was made by Hanna-Barbera and King Features Entertainment. It aired for one season with 13 episodes on CBS. This series was a follow-up to an earlier show called The All New Popeye Hour.
Maurice LaMarche took over as the voice of Popeye in this series. Many actors from The All New Popeye Hour returned for their roles. This was the first Popeye cartoon made after the original voice actor, Jack Mercer, passed away in 1984. After its first run on CBS, the show was shown again on the USA Network and The Family Channel.
Meet the Characters
This show introduces us to Popeye and his long-time girlfriend, Olive Oyl, who are now married! They have a son named Popeye Junior, or just "Junior." Junior has inherited his dad's special power. He can get superhuman strength by eating spinach!
However, there's a funny twist: Junior doesn't like the taste of spinach! He prefers hamburgers, just like Wimpy. Even though he doesn't like it, he eats spinach anyway to get strong, which sometimes disappoints his dad.
Popeye's old rival, Bluto, is also married. He and his wife have a son named Tank. Just like their fathers, Junior and Tank are rivals too. The show follows their adventures and rivalries.
