Donald R. "Don" Lusk (October 28, 1913 – December 30, 2018) was a super talented American animator and director. He helped bring many classic cartoon characters to life! Don worked on some of your favorite Disney movies and later directed popular TV shows like Scooby-Doo and The Smurfs.

Early Life of Don Lusk

Don Lusk was born on October 28, 1913. His hometown was Burbank, which is a city near Los Angeles. When he was older, Don served in the U.S. Marines during World War II.

Don Lusk's Amazing Animation Career

Don Lusk started working at The Walt Disney Company in 1933. He was only 20 years old! His first job was as an "inbetweener." This means he drew the frames that go between the main drawings to make movement smooth.

He became a full animator and worked on many famous Disney films. His first movie as an animator was Ferdinand the Bull in 1938. This short film was based on a popular children's book.

Don helped create scenes for some of Disney's most beloved animated movies. These include Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and Fantasia. He also worked on Bambi, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan. Later, he contributed to Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, and One Hundred and One Dalmatians.

In 1960, Don left Disney. But he didn't stop animating! He continued to work as an animator throughout the 1960s and 1970s.

Directing Cartoons

Besides animating, Don Lusk also directed many cartoon films and TV series. He directed some of the classic Peanuts TV specials and movies. He also worked for the famous Hanna-Barbera studio. There, he directed episodes of shows like The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, The Smurfs, and Tom and Jerry.

Don Lusk retired in the early 1990s. His career in animation and directing lasted for about 60 years!

Don Lusk's Personal Life and Passing

Don Lusk was married to Marge Lusk. She worked in the Personnel Department at Disney Studios. Don and Marge had two children together.

Don Lusk lived a very long life. He passed away on December 30, 2018, in San Clemente, California. He was 105 years old when he died. His long-time friend, Navah-Paskowitz Asner, shared the sad news on social media.
