Posen is a small village located in Cook County, Illinois, in the United States. Its name comes from "Posen," which is the German name for the city of Poznań in western Poland. In 2020, about 5,632 people lived in Posen.

Where is Posen Located?
Posen is found at coordinates 41°37′42″N 87°41′9″W / 41.62833°N 87.68583°W. It covers a total area of about 1.17 square miles (3.03 square kilometers), and all of it is land.
A Brief History of Posen
The area where Posen is today was first settled by farmers in the late 1800s. Many of these early settlers were from the Netherlands and Germany.
How Posen Grew
Around 1893, a company from Chicago started selling land to Poles who wanted to move to the United States. This led to Posen becoming a village where many factory workers lived. These workers often found jobs in nearby Harvey. They also had space on their land for small gardens.
In 1894, a Catholic church was started for the Polish residents of Posen. It became a full parish in 1898, named St. Stanislaus the Martyr. This church closed in 2022.
Changes in Population Over Time
For a long time, Posen was known for its large Polish community. In the 1930s, almost all the people living there were of Polish background. By 1990, most residents were still white, with many having Polish roots.
However, over the last few decades, Posen has become much more diverse. Between 1990 and 2010, the number of Hispanic residents grew a lot. The number of African American residents also increased significantly during this time. This shows how Posen has changed and welcomed people from many different backgrounds.
