The Poás Volcano is an active volcano located in Costa Rica. It is found near the town of Poás in Alajuela. This volcano is famous for having two large craters.

One of its craters is among the biggest in the world! It measures about 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) across and is 290 meters (950 feet) deep. The largest known eruption from Poás happened in 1910.

The area around the volcano is a national park. Many tourists from Costa Rica and other countries love to visit this amazing place.

Main Crater Lake

At the bottom of the main crater, there is a special lagoon. This lagoon is an acidic lake. It has boiling sulfuric gases bubbling up from it. The water in this lake can be quite warm. Its temperature changes, usually between 20°C (68°F) and 50°C (122°F).

Because of changes in the lake's chemicals and temperature, its color can also change. It's like a giant, colorful science experiment!

Second Crater Lake

The second crater at Poás Volcano holds a different kind of lake. This one is a cold water lake. It is connected to a nearby river called the Rio Angel. This shows how different parts of the volcano can be!
