Marie Thérèse had several brothers and sisters. Her older siblings were Princess Marie Françoise and Carlos Hugo, Duke of Parma. Her younger siblings were Princess Cécile Marie, Princess Marie des Neiges, and Prince Sixtus Henry. She was also the niece of Zita of Bourbon-Parma. Zita was the last Empress of Austria.

Marie Thérèse grew up in a castle called Chateau du Bostz in France. After middle school, she went to university. She earned two doctorates, which are very high degrees. One was in Hispanic studies from Paris-Sorbonne University. The other was in political sociology from the Complutense University of Madrid. She also studied how Islam related to women's rights.

Career and Activism

Marie Thérèse became a professor at both universities where she studied. She taught about politics and society. She was also a strong supporter of socialist ideas. She worked hard for women's rights.

She supported her brother, Carlos Hugo. He wanted to make the Spanish Carlist party more open and modern. Marie Thérèse's royal background and her modern views attracted many important people. She met leaders like François Mitterrand and Yasser Arafat. Because of her strong beliefs, she was given the nickname "Red Princess." A book about her life was even titled "Red Princess."

Personal Life

In 1981, Marie Thérèse became a Spanish citizen. The government said it was because of her special background. She was part of a family very connected to Spain.

In an interview in 1997, Marie Thérèse said she was Christian. However, she did not agree with some Christian views on immigration. She believed everyone should be welcomed.

Marie Thérèse never married and did not have children. She was the aunt of Prince Carlos, Duke of Parma. She was also a distant cousin of the current King of Spain, Felipe VI.

Death and Legacy

On March 26, 2020, Princess Marie Thérèse died from COVID-19. She was 86 years old. She passed away in a hospital in Paris. Her family announced her death on their official website. They said she was important for her work. She fought for democracy, fairness, and freedom in Spain.

Her funeral was held in Parma, Italy, in August 2021. She was buried at the Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Steccata. Many members of her family attended the service.
