The Province of Antofagasta is a special area in northern Chile. It's one of three provinces in the Antofagasta Region. The main city and capital of this province is Antofagasta, which is also a busy port city.

Geography of Antofagasta Province
The Antofagasta province covers a large area of about 67,813.5 square kilometers. That's a lot of land!
This province has interesting neighbors. To the north, it shares borders with the Tocopilla and El Loa provinces. To the east, it borders Argentina. South of it is the Atacama Region, specifically the Chañaral Province. And to the west, it meets the vast Pacific Ocean.

In 2002, a national census counted 318,779 people living in the Antofagasta province. This means there were about 4.7 people living in each square kilometer.
