The Province of Naples (called Provincia di Napoli in Italian) was a special area in southern Italy. It was located in the Campania region. In January 2015, it changed its name and became the Metropolitan City of Naples.

The Province of Naples was the most crowded area in Italy. In 2013, many of Italy's biggest towns were found here. It covered an area of about 1,171 square kilometers (452 square miles). Around 3.05 million people lived there.

Tourism and Attractions
This area is very popular for tourists from all over the world. There are many exciting places to visit.
Ancient Pompeii
Pompeii is one of Italy's most famous places. It was an ancient Roman city. In 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius erupted and covered the city in ash. Today, you can explore the ruins of Pompeii. It is like stepping back in time.
Beautiful Islands
There are three beautiful islands in the Gulf of Naples. These are Ischia, Procida, and Capri. They are also known as the Campanian Archipelago.
- On Capri, you can visit the famous Blue Grotto. Inside this sea cave, the water glows a magnificent blue color. It looks like it is lit from underwater.
The Sorrentine Peninsula
The Sorrentine Peninsula is another popular spot. Its main town is Sorrento. This area is famous for a lemon drink called Limoncello. It also has amazing sea cliffs. You can find many old villas, castles, and churches here. In Vico Equense, there are even ancient farmhouses.
Sports in Naples
The most popular sport in this area is football (soccer). English sailors brought the sport here in the early 1900s. This made it one of the first places in Southern Italy to play football.
Famous Football Clubs
The most successful football club from this area is SSC Napoli. They have won Italy's top league, Serie A, two times. They also won the UEFA Cup when the famous player Diego Maradona was on their team.
Today, there are four professional football clubs from the province that play in Italian leagues:
- SSC Napoli plays in Serie A, which is the highest league.
- SS Ischia Isolaverde, SS Juve Stabia, and AC Savoia play in Lega Pro.
