The Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve is a beautiful natural area. It is found on the western side of Kings Mountain in Woodside, California. This large preserve covers about 4,711 acres. It was created thanks to a generous gift of $2 million from the Save the Redwoods League.

This special place is home to Purisima Creek. Many smaller streams also flow through the preserve.

Discover Purisima Creek Redwoods

The main entrance to Purisima Creek Redwoods is off Skyline Boulevard. This road is part of State Route 35. The preserve is well-known for its very tall coastal redwood trees. You can also find other types of forests here. These include coastal scrub and hardwood forests. Trees like tanoak, madrone, and Douglas fir grow here.

What You'll See

The preserve offers amazing views of Half Moon Bay. It has more than 21 miles of trails. These trails are perfect for hiking, bicycling, and even horseback riding. The popular Redwood Trail is easy to use for everyone, including those in wheelchairs. Just like many parks in California, dogs are not allowed inside the preserve.

Wildlife in the Preserve

Purisima Creek Redwoods is home to many different animals. You might spot bobcats, mountain lions, or coyotes. Rabbits also live here. Keep an eye out for these creatures as you explore the trails!

Part of a Bigger System

The Purisima Open Space is part of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. This district protects over 50,000 acres of land. It spans across the San Francisco Bay Area. You can find parking at the main entrance. It's about 4.5 miles south of Highway 92 on Skyline Boulevard.
