A Look at Quebrada Arriba's History
How Puerto Rico Became a U.S. Territory
Puerto Rico was once controlled by Spain. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened under the rules of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means it is part of the U.S. but does not have the same rights as a state.

The census found that the total population of Quebrada Arriba and two nearby communities, Culebras Alto and Culebras Bajo, was 914 people.
