Río Limpio is a special area in the Dominican Republic. Its name means Clean River in English. It is a municipal district, which is a type of local government area. Río Limpio is part of the larger area called Pedro Santana in the Elías Piña Province.

In 2010, about 3,364 people lived in Río Limpio. Most of these people lived in the countryside. About 1,513 people lived in the town area itself.
How Río Limpio Started
Río Limpio became a municipal district in 1992. This happened because of a special law passed on November 15, 1992. Before that, it was just a smaller part of Pedro Santana.
Where Río Limpio Is Located
Río Limpio covers an area of about 312.2 square kilometers (about 120.5 square miles). It is located next to the Vallecito river. This river flows into the larger Artibonite River.
The town is west of a tall mountain called Loma Nalga de Maco. This mountain is about 1,990 meters (6,529 feet) high. It is the tallest mountain in the western part of the Cordillera Central mountain range.
Río Limpio shares its borders with several other areas. To the northwest, it borders the Dajabón Province. To the northeast, it borders the Santiago Rodríguez Province. The San Juan Province is to the east. To the south, it borders the municipality of Pedro Santana. Finally, to the west, it borders the country of Haiti.
