Rabbit Creek is a small stream located in Ontario, Canada. It flows through the area known as Temagami in the Nipissing District. This creek is part of a larger network of waterways. All the water from Rabbit Creek eventually flows into the Ottawa River.

About Rabbit Creek

Rabbit Creek starts from a pond that doesn't have a name. This pond is north of Christy Lake. From there, the creek flows north. Then it turns east towards North Milne Lake.

Where Rabbit Creek Flows

The creek continues northeast. It goes under Ontario Highway 11. Then it reaches another unnamed lake. After that, it flows into an area called geographic Askin Township. It passes Hornet Lake. Another small stream, Angus Creek, joins Rabbit Creek there. Rabbit Creek then flows alongside the Ontario Northland Railway. Finally, it reaches its end, or mouth, at Rabbit Lake.

Rabbit Creek's Journey to the Ottawa River

The water from Rabbit Lake doesn't stop there. It flows into the Matabitchuan River. This river then leads to Lake Timiskaming. From Lake Timiskaming, the water eventually makes its way to the big Ottawa River. This whole system is called the Ottawa River drainage basin. It means all these rivers and lakes are connected. They all drain their water into the Ottawa River.

A Train Incident

On March 14, 2000, a train accident happened near Rabbit Creek. This happened along the Ontario Northland Railway. Seventeen train cars rolled down a hill. Two of these cars were carrying a liquid that could be harmful.

Protecting the Creek

People were worried that this liquid might get into Rabbit Creek. To help protect the creek, the Ontario Northland company acted quickly. They put gravel into the creek. This was an effort to slow down or stop the flow of any harmful liquid. It helped to keep the creek safe from pollution.
