While in Peresecina, he worked as a DJ at his father's nightclub. He also started a studio called "Artshow." Here, he put on musical theater shows for kids and teenagers. After finishing high school in 1996, he went to the Chișinău Music Conservatory. He also taught singing lessons to children.
Joining O-Zone
In 2001, Radu Sîrbu was chosen to join a new music group called O-Zone. This happened after an audition held by Moldovan singer Dan Balan. The group had three members: Radu Sîrbu, Dan Balan, and Arsenie Todiras.
O-Zone quickly became very popular in Moldova. To become even more famous, they moved to Bucharest, Romania, in 2002.
O-Zone's Big Hits
The band's first successful song was "Despre Tine" (which means "About You"). This song became number one on the music charts in Romania. Their next song, "Dragostea Din Tei" (meaning "Love from the Linden Trees"), made O-Zone famous all over the world.
After being number one in Romania for four weeks, an Italian music company offered them a contract. "Dragostea Din Tei" was released in Italy in early 2004. It quickly became a huge hit across Europe. It was the top song on the Eurochart Hot 100 for twelve weeks. By the end of 2004, "Dragostea Din Tei" was number one in France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.
