Ranveer Singh Brar (born 8 February 1978) is a famous Indian chef, TV star, author, and actor. He is well-known for hosting many cooking shows and for being a judge on MasterChef India. After finishing his studies at a hotel management school in Lucknow, Chef Brar started his cooking journey, which has now lasted for almost thirty years.

Early Life and Inspiration

Ranveer Brar was born in Lucknow, India. His family is Jat Sikh. When he was young, he was really inspired by the local Kebab sellers in Lucknow. This made him want to learn all about food. He went to HAL school in Lucknow. His strong interest in cooking led him to work as an apprentice for one of these sellers, Munir Ustad.

Even though his family was not sure at first, they eventually supported him. This led Ranveer to join the Institute of Hotel Management, Lucknow. There, he learned more about cooking in a formal way.

Chef Ranveer's Culinary Journey

Ranveer Brar started his professional cooking career with the Taj Group of Hotels. His first job was at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Delhi.

New Adventures in Goa

In 2001, he moved to Goa for a new adventure. At the Fort Aguada Beach Resort, he helped open three restaurants. These included "Morisco," a seafood restaurant, "il Camino," an Italian place, and "Fishtail," a small outdoor barbeque spot.

Youngest Executive Chef

After his successful time in Goa, he returned to Delhi in 2003. He joined the new Radisson Blu Hotel in Noida. At just 25 years old, he became the youngest executive chef in India. This made him quite famous.

Cooking Around the World

Later, he went to Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States. There, he and his team opened "Banq," a fancy Franco-Asian restaurant. "Banq" won many awards, including "Best New Restaurant in the World" from "Wallpaper" magazine. The restaurant is now closed.

After this, he became the head chef for the One World Hospitality Group in Boston. A little later, he came back to India and joined Novotel, Juhu Beach, in Mumbai as the Senior Executive Chef.

Creating New Restaurants

Chef Brar is very good at creating new menus and even whole restaurants. He worked with MTV India to launch their chain of restaurants. The first one, FLYP @ MTV, opened in Delhi in 2015. Others followed in Chandigarh and Mumbai.

In 2016, he opened a special dessert shop in Mumbai called English Vinglish. It offered Indian fusion desserts, breads, and baked goods, all vegetarian. In December 2016, he also opened an all-vegetarian restaurant in Mumbai called TAG Gourmart Kitchen by Ranveer Brar. He also helped create menus for the Alila heritage property at Bishangarh.

He worked with Royal Caribbean International to create Indian food menus for their cruise ships sailing from Singapore. He also helped Thomas Cook India design menus for Indian travelers going abroad. Chef Brar also traveled across India with Mercedes-Benz India for the Ranveer Brar Culinary Academy. He hosted cooking workshops and demonstrations as part of their Luxe Drive Live campaign. In September 2023, Ranveer opened an Indian restaurant called Kashkan in Dubai Festival City Mall. It serves a wide range of Indian dishes from all over the country.

Chef Brar has been a judge on MasterChef India several times.

  • In 2018, he presented Secrets Behind Food for Sony BBC Earth. This included shows like Supermarket Secrets and Food Detectives.
  • He hosted two seasons of Raja Rasoi Aur Andaaz Anokha for Epic TV. This show explored food history and traditional Indian recipes.
  • In November 2017, he was a judge on a cooking reality show called Rasoi ki Jung Mummyon ke Sung on Colors TV.
  • He launched a mini-video series on Twitter called Ranveer On The Road in 2016. It showed his food adventures in Australia, Seychelles, Turkey, and Thailand.
  • He hosted a popular digital series called Maa ki Baat on his social media channels.

  • He also hosted Thums Up Toofani Hunt, a travel and food show on Disney+ Hotstar, which completed its second season in 2025.
  • Chef Brar started a new survival journey with movie stars in Star vs Food Survival on Discovery and Discovery+. The show premiered in October 2023 and finished its second season in 2025.
  • He hosts The Family Table on Epic TV, where he invites celebrities and their families for fun cooking challenges.

Books by Ranveer Brar

Chef Ranveer Brar released his first book, "Come Into My Kitchen," in 2016. It is his autobiography, telling the story of his journey from Lucknow to Boston and then to Mumbai, sharing his cooking adventures and memories. He then released a second book called A Traditional Twist. This book, made with Bertolli India, features many Indian and global recipes.

Ranveer Brar's Mobile App

In early 2019, Chef Brar launched his own mobile app. He created it with Hungama Digital Media. The app has all his recipes, shown in both text and video formats.

Awards and Recognition

Ranveer Brar is an honorary member of the James Beard Foundation. He has been recognized for his cooking contributions by many groups, including AIWF and AICA. The Mayor of Boston has also honored him. He has represented India at the WPF.

He has cooked for important events at the Rashtrapati Bhavan (the President's house) and the Prime Minister's home. He has also cooked for many Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities in both the US and India.

Ranveer Brar has worked with several brands as a cooking consultant and brand ambassador. These include Mercedes-Benz India, Bertolli Olive oil, SunGold Kiwifruit (marketed by Zespri International), Gadre Marine Export Pvt Ltd, Parag Milk Foods, and Victorinox.

In 2017, Ranveer Brar was named 'Indian of the Year' for Chef and TV Host. He also received the LFEGA 'Food Entertainer of the Year' award in 2018. In 2021, he was honored for his Outstanding Contribution to the Food and Beverage Industry by the Food Connoisseurs India Convention.
