Farah Khan was born on January 9, 1965. Her father, Kamran Khan, was a filmmaker. Her mother, Menaka Irani, was the sister of famous child actors Honey Irani and Daisy Irani. This means Farah is a cousin to film personalities Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. Her brother, Sajid Khan, is also a well-known comedian, actor, and director.

Farah Khan married Shirish Kunder on December 9, 2004. Shirish was the editor for her first movie, Main Hoon Na. They have worked together on many films since then. In 2008, Farah had triplets—one son and two daughters—through a special medical procedure.

Her Career Journey

Becoming a Choreographer

Farah Khan was studying sociology at St. Xavier's College when she saw Michael Jackson's "Thriller" music video. She was so inspired that she decided to become a dancer, even though she had never danced before! She taught herself and started her own dance group.

Her big break came when she took over as choreographer for the film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992). After that, she created many famous dance numbers. She met actor Shahrukh Khan on the set of Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1994), and they became good friends and often worked together.

Farah has won seven Filmfare Awards for her choreography. She also choreographed "Jumping Jhapak," the official song for the 2013 Indian Premier League cricket tournament.

She has worked on international projects too. She choreographed for Monsoon Wedding (2001) and Bombay Dreams (2002). She even helped Colombian pop star Shakira with a Bollywood dance for her song "Hips Don't Lie" in 2006. In 2009, she choreographed for Kylie Minogue in the song "Chiggy Wiggy".

Directing Movies

In 2004, Farah Khan became a film director with the action-comedy film Main Hoon Na. It starred Shahrukh Khan and Sushmita Sen. The movie was a big success and was the second highest-grossing Indian film that year. This film earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Director.

Her next movie was Om Shanti Om (2007), starring Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. This film was also a huge hit and became the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2007. It earned Farah her second nomination for Best Director.

Her next film was the comedy Tees Maar Khan (2010), starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif. Even though it had a lot of buzz, the movie didn't do as well as her previous ones. However, it is remembered for Katrina Kaif's popular dance song "Sheila Ki Jawani," which Farah also choreographed.

In 2012, Farah Khan also tried acting in the romantic comedy Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi.

Her most recent directorial film was the dance-heist comedy Happy New Year (2014). It reunited her with Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. The film was the second highest-grossing Indian film of 2014.

Television and Production Work

Farah Khan has also been a popular face on television. She hosted a celebrity chat show called Tere Mere Beach Mein. She has been a judge on many reality TV shows, including Indian Idol, Dance India Dance Li'l Masters, and Just Dance.

In 2015, she hosted Bigg Boss Halla Bol, a spin-off of the popular reality show Bigg Boss.

Farah and her husband, Shirish Kunder, also have their own production company called "Three's Company." They named it after their triplets!
