Ravel Ryan Morrison (born on February 2, 1993) is a professional footballer. He plays as a midfielder for UAE Second Division League club Precision.

Morrison grew up in the youth teams at Manchester United. He was seen as one of their most promising young players. He played three times for the Manchester United first team. In January 2012, he joined West Ham United.

During his time at West Ham, Morrison played for other clubs on loan. These included Birmingham City (2012–13), Queens Park Rangers (2014), and Cardiff City (2014). He was part of the QPR team that won the 2014 Football League Championship play-off final.

In July 2015, he moved to Lazio in Italy. Later, he had loan spells back at QPR in 2017 and at Mexican club Atlas in 2017–18. He then joined Swedish club Östersund in February 2019. In July 2019, he returned to England to play for Sheffield United. He also had a loan spell at Middlesbrough in 2020. After leaving Sheffield United, he played for ADO Den Haag in the Netherlands and Derby County in England. In July 2022, he joined Major League Soccer club D.C. United. Since September 2024, he has been playing for Precision.

Ravel Morrison was born in England and played for England's youth teams. These included the under-16, under-17, under-18, and under-21 teams. He is also able to play for Jamaica because of his family background. He made his first senior international appearance for Jamaica in November 2020.

Club Career Highlights

Starting at Manchester United

Morrison began his football journey at Fletcher Moss Rangers. He was spotted by a scout for the Manchester United Academy. Sir Alex Ferguson, the famous Manchester United manager, thought he was an amazing young talent. Morrison signed a professional contract on his 17th birthday in February 2010.

He made his first team debut for Manchester United in a League Cup match in October 2010. He came on as a substitute in a 3–2 win. After this game, Alex Ferguson shared that Morrison wrote him a thank-you letter, which was very special.

In April 2011, he scored a goal against Chelsea in the semi-final of the FA Youth Cup. Manchester United won that game 4–0. He scored two more goals in the final against Sheffield United, helping Manchester United win the Youth Cup. He played two more League Cup games for Manchester United before moving on.

Moving to West Ham United

On January 31, 2012, Morrison joined Championship club West Ham United. His contract was for three and a half years. Sir Alex Ferguson told West Ham's manager, Sam Allardyce, that Morrison was a "brilliant footballer" with "top class ability." He made his debut for West Ham in March 2012.

Loan to Birmingham City

To get more experience playing in first-team matches, Morrison joined Birmingham City on loan for the 2012–13 season. He played his first game for Birmingham City in August 2012. He scored his first league goal in November 2012 with a "spectacular volley."

Back at West Ham United

Morrison returned to West Ham United for the 2013–14 season. He scored his first goal for West Ham in August 2013 in a League Cup win. In September 2013, he scored his first Premier League goal against Everton.

One of his most memorable goals was against Tottenham Hotspur in October 2013. Manager Sam Allardyce called it a "genius goal." This goal later won West Ham's "Goal of the Season" award.

Loan to Queens Park Rangers

In February 2014, Morrison joined Queens Park Rangers (QPR) on a 93-day loan. He scored his first goals for QPR in March 2014, scoring twice in a 2–0 win against Birmingham City. Morrison was part of the QPR team that won the 2014 Football League Championship play-off final at Wembley in May 2014.

Loan to Cardiff City

In September 2014, Morrison went on a three-month loan to Cardiff City. He was named Man of the Match in his first start for the club. He returned to West Ham early from his loan in December 2014.

Playing for Lazio

In January 2015, it was reported that Morrison had agreed to join Lazio in Italy. His contract with West Ham United ended early, and he began training with Lazio. He made his Lazio debut in a friendly match in July 2015, scoring two goals.

He made his official debut for Lazio in a UEFA Champions League play-off match in August 2015. A few days later, he played his first Serie A game. However, he did not play much for Lazio in the 2015–16 season.

Loans to QPR and Atlas

In January 2017, Morrison returned to Queens Park Rangers on loan until the end of the season. He played five games for them. In August 2017, he joined Mexican club Atlas on loan for the 2017–18 season.

Time in Sweden and England

In February 2019, Morrison joined Swedish club Östersund. He scored his first goal for the club in a cup match in March 2019. His contract was not renewed in June 2019.

In July 2019, he began training with Sheffield United, who had just been promoted to the Premier League. He signed a one-year deal with them. In January 2020, he went on loan to Middlesbrough. He left Sheffield United when his contract ended in 2020.

Later Career Clubs

On September 21, 2020, Dutch club ADO Den Haag signed Morrison. His contract ended in January 2021.

In August 2021, Morrison signed with Derby County. He scored on his debut for Derby in an EFL Cup game. He left the club at the end of the 2021–22 season.

In July 2022, Morrison joined Major League Soccer club D.C. United in the United States. He made his debut in July and scored his first goal in August 2022.

On September 30, 2024, Morrison joined UAE Second Division League club Precision.

International Career

Morrison played for England at different youth levels. These included the under-16, under-17, under-18, and under-21 teams.

He is also eligible to play for Jamaica. In October 2020, Morrison was chosen for Jamaica's senior squad. He made his debut for Jamaica in a friendly match in November 2020. Morrison scored his first goal for Jamaica in March 2022 during a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification game against Honduras. He scored his second goal in June 2022 against Suriname.

Playing Style

Many people have praised Ravel Morrison's football skills. Lazio director Igli Tare said Morrison has "undoubted quality and is world class." Sir Alex Ferguson noted that Morrison "always got time and space" on the field, which is rare for a young player.

His former Manchester United teammate Rio Ferdinand called Morrison the most talented young player he had ever seen. A journalist for The Guardian described him as a player with "balance, speed, control, vision, flair, strong on either foot, an eye for a pass and a prolific scorer."
