Ready to Read with Pooh is a fun computer game from 1997. It was made by Disney Interactive to help young children, especially those aged three to six, learn how to read. This game comes on a CD-ROM and is packed with nine exciting activities. As you play and finish each activity, you earn special items. These items can be placed in a cool treehouse within the game! There was also a similar game released around the same time called Ready for Math with Pooh. That game focused on learning math skills and had its own garden and seven activities.

How to Play Ready to Read with Pooh

The game begins with Winnie the Pooh floating down from the sky in a balloon, singing a welcoming song. When he lands, he's near a treehouse. This treehouse is your main base in the game!

A character named Gopher will appear with a mailbox. Here, you can type in your name to start a new game or continue an old one. The mailbox will show you if you have new messages when you return to the treehouse. Pooh will explain how to play, and then you're ready to explore!

Your mouse cursor in the game is a busy bee. It will show you where you can click to interact with things. You can always click on the edge of the screen to leave an activity.

Exploring the Hundred Acre Wood

You can travel to different parts of the Hundred Acre Wood by clicking on paths that lead West, East, North, or back Home to the treehouse. Each area has three different games you can play.

When you successfully finish a game, Gopher will give you a special reward. These rewards can be seen later in your treehouse! Each game has three levels, and you get a reward for completing each level the first time.

Many items and objects in the woods are clickable. They often have fun animations or sounds when you click on them. You can also go inside the treehouse by clicking on its doors to see the items you've won.

Special Rewards and Characters

If you complete all the activities in one area, Tigger will give you a special doorbell. This doorbell can play different sound effects! As you complete more games, you can even upgrade your doorbell to make new sounds.

Most of the beloved characters from Winnie the Pooh, like Piglet, Eeyore, Rabbit, Kanga, Roo, and Owl, are not seen on screen. However, you will hear their voices as you play!

Ready for Math with Pooh: A Companion Game

Ready for Math with Pooh is very similar to Ready to Read with Pooh. The main difference is where you start the game. In the math game, you begin in a garden. Pooh accidentally squashes some thistles when you first start, but you can choose to help them grow back later!

Instead of a mailbox, you'll find a wheelbarrow where you type your name. You still get mail, but the letters are attached to a fence and might blow away after you read them. The paths to different areas are the same, but the "Home" path is called the "Garden" path.

As you play the math games, Rabbit will fill the garden with patches where you can plant seeds. You'll get flower seeds, a watering can, a shrub, a scarecrow, and a basket. Sometimes, characters will leave items in the basket for another friend. You'll find out about these in letters! Other characters will then come to the garden to pick up their items.

Voice Actors in the Game

Many talented voice actors brought the characters to life in Ready to Read with Pooh:
