What is Rebound About?
Coach Roy McCormick (Martin Lawrence) was once a top basketball coach. He cared more about getting famous and making money. He often let his temper get out of control. One day, he causes a big problem with a mascot. Because of this, he is banned from college basketball. He cannot coach until he learns to control his anger.
Roy cannot find any new coaching jobs for a long time. Then, he gets one offer from Mount Vernon Junior High School. This is the same middle school he went to as a kid! The school's basketball team, called the Smelters, needs a coach. The principal thinks Roy would be perfect because of his basketball skills.
Roy is not happy about coaching middle schoolers. But he knows he has no other choice. He accepts the job, hoping to prove he can be calm. He wants to get back to coaching college teams.
At first, coaching the Smelters is tough for Roy. He even gets into an embarrassing situation. He decides things need to change. Roy starts to teach the kids real basketball skills. He also teaches them how important it is to be a good sport.
As Roy teaches the kids, he also learns from them. The Smelters team starts to get better and win games. Roy realizes he had forgotten how much he loved the game itself. He finds a new appreciation for his old school. Roy learns that even without big money, he can be happy coaching these kids.
