Richard Anthony Simpson (born May 28, 1968), known as Chubb Rock, is a rapper from Jamaica and America. He became famous for his successful hip hop albums in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Chubb Rock was a very smart student, even earning a special scholarship. He decided to leave Brown University to follow his dream of making music.

Chubb Rock's Early Music Career
Chubb Rock was discovered and produced by his cousin, DJ-Producer Howie Tee. He first became known in 1988 with his album Chubb Rock. His next album, And the Winner is..., came out in 1989. This album had a popular song called "Ya Bad Chubbs" that was played a lot on the TV show Yo! MTV Raps.
In 1990, his album The One was a big hit. It reached number 13 on the top hip-hop and R&B music charts. Three songs from this album were especially popular: "Treat 'Em Right", "Just The Two of Us", and "The Chubbster". All three of these songs reached number one on Billboard's Top Rap Singles chart.
The next year, he released I Gotta Get Mine, Yo. This album featured other artists like Grand Puba Maxwell. It also helped new music producers, Trackmasters, become more well-known. Chubb Rock also appeared on a song called "Back to the Grill" in 1992.
In 1995, Chubb Rock joined a hip hop group called the Crooklyn Dodgers. Other members included OC and Jeru the Damaja. His backup dancers also formed their own group, A.T.E.E.M.
In 1996, Chubb Rock was part of a special album called America is Dying Slowly. This album aimed to raise awareness about the AIDS epidemic. Many famous artists like Wu-Tang Clan and Coolio were also on the album.
Chubb Rock's Music and Radio Work in the 2000s
Chubb Rock's music work was less frequent in the 2000s. He contributed to a project called "No More Prisons." He also worked with Mr. Len on a song where he said, "Some people thought I was gone... never that!" In 2007, he appeared on the Zimbabwe Legit album House of Stone. He also contributed to the soundtrack for the movie Wet Hot American Summer in 2001.
In 2008, his song "Treat 'Em Right" was ranked number 82 on VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop. Chubb Rock also released a song called "Obama We Believe" to support President Obama. Later, he worked with the artist K'naan on the song "ABC's." He also collaborated with a Polish rapper named eMCeeM.
In 2009, he released the single "Back In" from his album Bridging The Gap. This album was a collaboration with Wordsmith.
More recently, Chubb Rock was featured in the song "Summertime Anthem" by Eric Roberson. They filmed the music video in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, New York City. Chubb Rock has said that his wife and manager, KeKe "Diamond" Simpson, helped bring them together for the song.
In September 2011, Chubb Rock released a shorter music collection called an EP. That same year, he and his wife, KeKe Simpson, appeared on the NBC game show The Marriage Ref. They had been together for 24 years.
Chubb Rock later moved to Atlanta and started working on a radio show. He joined Silas "SiMan Baby" Alexander on Atlanta's Majic 107.5/97.5 radio station. In 2018, they left that station and began their own radio show that is played on many stations.
