In the 1920s, the area was flooded on purpose. This was done to create the lake we see today. After the flooding, the town center had to move. It first moved to a spot near the railroad and the Allegheny River.
Later, in the 1970s, the town moved again. This happened after the Kinzua Dam was built. The new location for the town was known as Baystate. So, Red House Lake holds a hidden history of a town that once stood where its waters now flow.
